Pediatric Dental Crowns are a safe and effective way to repair the top of damaged teeth. Smile Studio Kids is proud to offer crowns and other pediatric dental services to residents of Atlanta, Fairburn and the nearby areas of Georgia.
What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown, also commonly referred to as a cap, is a temporary solution for damaged baby teeth until the permanent teeth come in. The purpose of a crown is to ensure that the damage done to the top of the tooth, due to decay does, not worsen and that the rest of the tooth remains healthy. A crown is also placed after a pulpotomy is performed. A crown can either be made of:
- Porcelain
- Metal
- Ceramic
- Composite resin
The type of material used for your child’s crown will likely depend on the location of the damaged tooth, the position of your child’s gum tissue, how visible the crown will be when the mouth is open, and how much of the healthy, natural tooth is remaining. To get a better idea of which type of crown is best for your child, we encourage you to come in and see Dr. Erika Venn.
How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?
In order to maintain the structure of the crown, we often recommend children avoid biting down on hard-to-eat or sticky foods like hard candies. We also recommend patients brush their teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day to maintain the health of their teeth and dental crown.
